I've been painting scenes from New Hampshire but took a trip to Joshua Tree National Park and couldn't resist switching to warmer scenes.  The lower painting is the first in a series I'll be working on and then switch to NH to capture the spring scene.  Nature is such a delight and today is absolutely gorgeous.  Out for a mountain hike!

I could look at this scene forever!  This painting has been worked on and changed since it was started 2 1/2 years ago and it's not quite done but close to what I'm going for.

I took this picture last weekend after we had a few inches of snow and there was no breeze.  It was a beautiful and serene morning until the pups started to arrive.  They had a blast!

We're socked in, locked down and travel banned today with the blizzard.  I'm taking advantage of the time to post here, bake a no-knead whole wheat sour dough bread and some gingerbread for the pot luck tonight with my buddies on the first and second floor of my building.  

Here are 3 paintings-2 from the sketches I posted in Nov.  I'm thinking of going even bigger, maybe on paper.

Spy Pond show

Happy New Year to all!  I'm excited to be having a show of the project I undertook for a year of painting and blogging my explorations and experiences at Spy Pond in Arlington MA.   I'll hang the show on Monday Jan 5 and the opening reception is Thursday Jan 8 5:30-7.   Also I now have a studio at 6 Vernon St. in Somerville, MA. which I share with my friend and fellow artist Martha Slocum.  We participated in Vernon St. Open Studios in December.  It's wonderful to have a large space to both make art in and be able to view it properly.  Of course there's also the benefit of being surrounded by other artists.  Hope you can stop by the show or catch the open studios in the spring.

I'm dog-sitting for the weekend for my daughter and son-in-law's Great Dane named Oliver.  My dog Cally and I "herd" Ollie on a walk by the lake near my daughter's house.  It's a lovely place and I've taken to sketching some scenes from photos I snap while we walk on the round the lake trail, hitting roots and rocks and ups and downs but some mighty beautiful scenes.   Here are 3 sketches done with Caran D'Ache and water.

The group, NewHAT, that I painted with this summer has a show in Hopkinton at the Art Center and it's up until November 18th.   Here's the postcard:

I'm now sharing studio space at the Vernon St. Studios in Somerville, MA.  It's very exciting to have a large well-lit space to work in--just have to stop taking these dog-sitting gigs!   And they are having open studios Dec 6&7 12-6 so my studio-mate and friend Martha Slocum will be there and would love to have visitors. We're at building 6 studio #44.  I'll have some new prints and some older paintings and prints.  Here's the postcard for that as well as for the Somerville Museum show which I have a print in.
